All About Angie
Most paths of Judaic songwriters don’t necessarily start with David Allen Coe’s “You Never Even Called Me By My Name,” but Angie Friedman is not a typical Jewish songwriter. Born into a musical family, Angie’s love of music started at age two with Coe’s seminal classic and never stopped. Today, Angie brings her love of all genres of music into her songwriting, finding ways of bringing new sounds and new meanings to traditional texts and teachings.
Inspired by the talmudic idea of reciting 100 blessings a day, Angie’s songwriting explores unexpected ways of working in those brachot, celebrating the practice of noticing the little things and finding joy in them. Whether it’s a fresh interpretation of the Hashkiveinu or musings on allergy season, her original music and lyrics offer a new and unique point of view to almost any subject imaginable.
Angie has been singing for more than 48 years, performing with various choral groups (including Schola Cantorum and the Fort Worth Baroque Society) and world-renowned artists like George Takei and Andrea Bocelli. A seasoned cantorial soloist—currently at Congregation Beth-El in Fort Worth, Texas—and B’nai Mitzvah tutor, Angie is recording her debut album, “Bring On The Peace.”
